That kind of stuff is not my cup of tea. Some of it strikes me as childish. The best of it has kind of a quilted feeling, which approaches folk art; but just according to me, it does nothing but look pretty (if you find it pretty). I guess I like the American Landscape the best because of its starkness -- it seems overly reliant on its own aesthetic to be truly interesting, though.

Tober's use of color is really quite engaging in my opinion. She is able to create depth and motion in her work almost exclusively by using color, line and regular, largely geometric forms. Value, as a design/compostion tool, is practically non-existent in most of her work. Although a quick glance can give you the impression that the works are flat and/or overly simplistic, if you look more closely, you can see how her use of use of color and line creates quite distinct spatial planes. Would I hang one her paintings in my house? Sure, if I had that kind of house, lol. Her use of color isn't ordinary, imho.

I went to school for fine art, visual comunication and graphic/web design in case you are interested. (By the way, I am unfamiliar with her work except for what I saw on the website link you provided.)

She's a pretty good artist, but it does remind me a lot of Kandinsky and the other Fauvism artists from the same movement. Artists like Dufy, Derain, early Matisse and Maurice de Vlaminch

Her more original work, like the 'New York Blackout' painting, I really like.
