The hands depends on the person or your patient in whom you want to make CPR. If it is infant, child or adult, because if it is infant you dont need your hand to make CPR you can use your middle finger and ring finger if you are having a CPR to adult you can use both hands..Locate the lower rib, upper of your belly botton and the middle finger of your hand must be align to the breast..You must have to know the technique how to do the CPR.CPR isn't as easy work because you are saving life of an unconscious person you may bring his/her life into danger if you are not able to make the right thrust for CPR..
May advice for you is you can have a training to First Aid Trainer or go to Red Cross for training.

Nipple line or between the breasts, in the center of the chest. In CPR class they give specific places to put your hands, but, as someone who had done CPR many times, I can tell you that you don't need to remember all that. Place your palm at nipple line and you will be fine. If you go to low you may damage the xyphoid process (the end of the breast bone) but they have more important things to worry about, such as being dead. If you go too high the compressions will circulate less blood, which is a bad thing.

As of June 2006, the policy is 'in the center of the chest' with the heel of the hand over the centerline of the breastbone. Put the other hand on top and interlock fingers, lifting the fingers off the ribs.
With a baby, it is using two fingers just below the nipple line.
In either case, we want to end up just above the notch where the ribs come together at the bottom of the breastbone.

Your hands should be towards the center of the breast bone(Not the ribs), but the following will also help give a general location. Take your pointing and middle finger and locate the end of the breast bone (the knoby point). This should create about an inch from the end and this where you place the heel of your other hand. So your other hand is about an inch from the end of the breast bone.

for adults, it is right on the brest bone. For an infant, you only use two fingers, in the middle of his/her two nipples. You should go for first aid/cpr certification..its very fun

in the center of the chest (directly between the breasts or nipples), if you go to low you could damage the xiphoid process(a piece of cartilage at the end of the sternum). If you go to high the compressions will be less effective.
