Hello,
I read some options given by other fellow surfers.
If you are starting, i prefer you to start with FORTRAN. It is not because it is powerful, (It is still used by NASA for complex mathematical calculations) but becasue of its structred approach.
If u need re-usabality, study 'C' first, and go for more powerful C++.
Pros: C++ is one of the basic langauges of many advanced packages/laungauges. If u know C++/C, I can guaeretee you that you can make fast improvements in other langauges. For example, ASP, PHP, ,, and many other tools are ased on C++.
If you need some web adventure, go for HTML first. (It is better to study how to code HTML by hand, but i would like to say that it is totally unnecaessary, as we can use any of the WYSIWYG (What you see is what you Get) editors for creating HTMLs, eg: Dreamweaver, or a free tool like Coffee Cup HTML editor). And afer HTML, go for PHP/ASP, you can create kool websites/dynamic websites like MSN which uses databases for their data.
have a nice luck

I think it is a good question to ask. This time one of the best programing language is Java. The thing that makes this language different frome other programing language is its is safe which means you can't make a various using this programing because it is free from hardware. The second thing about Java is it's platform independecy. That means if you write the code using windows, you can also run it on Mac. The other point is if you know Java, it means you know programing 90% of C++.

programming, vb.net it incorporates alot of cool things and you can create apps quickly with it. for web design, html is easy to learn, but php is more what employers are looking for. ;-) once you get a handle on object orientated programming, you will succeed no problem.
I know java, javascript, html, some php, vb6 and vb.net and more... programming is fun. Hope you find the language you like
