I cannot believe that someone would ask a question like this but be unwilling to spell out "you". You're definitely putting the cart before the horse here. Get a little discipline, then start worrying about raising your level of consciousness.

The only way to carry human self-consciousness to a higher level is with Science. Not with reading a book written 2,000 years ago. Science allows us to understand our true place in the Universe. Not special, just a part of a large and infinite Universe.
