The tobacco industry puts all kinds of additives and crap in cigarettes, which makes them extremely unhealthy, and it kills people, etc. If they didn't put all that in there, and just sold pure tobacco leaves in a natural wrapper, would it still be unhealthy? Is the plant itself unhealthy, or is it all caused by the additives?

Smoking anything is potentially not good. There are "natural" cigarettes on the market. Cocaine is also derived from a "natural" plant, the natives chewed it in order to maintain alertness, eliminate fatigue and work longer and better. I believe that smoking tobacco is not only chemically addictive but even more so psychologically addictive and habit forming. The need for oral satisfaction, habit of using a lighter, holding a cigarette, lighting it when the phone rings... Maybe less unhealthy but certainly bad still.

Pure tobacco would be much better for you than the stuff in commercial cigarettes. Still unhealthy, but still a better alternative.

Smoke inhalation is very unhealthy in itself, regardless of what is being smoked. After all, it is a cause of death. There are additional harmful ingredients in cigarettes, but you will still get cancer from rolling them yourself and inhaling the smoke. The harm is in the smoking.
