Both places (the hospital and the doctor) gave you the same answer - Herpes is a virus and it can cause blisters on the lips or in the mouth. Please follow the directions and care suggested by her doctor. He may have prescribed an anti-viral drug to hasten the healing. Make sure that baby does not spread the virus to any other family members. Limit kissing on face and mouth. (hard to do - babies are soooo sweet!) Also - this virus did not miraculously appear out of thin air - someone else in the family or a friend has given this virus to the baby - they need to be treated and to learn to take care to not spread it to others.

Your not going to get the kind of answers you need here. You really need to see a doctor and have tests run. If money is a problem ask the emergency room nurse or doctor if there is a free clinic you can go to. If you can afford a doctor get one that specializes in children. Pediatrics. Blisters and lesions in her mouth sounds very serious.

Oral herpes simplex causes sores in the mouth and lips, swollen lips and enlarged lymph glands in the throat with fever. She will be given an antiviral drug like acyclovir and something soothing to apply in the mouth like boroglycerine. Give her soft, cool foods like milk, cereal, banana . Also, if fever is high, give her something for it. She will be better within a few days.
I am a pediatrician.
