You can't stop a dog from shedding any more than you can stop yourself from shedding hair. Depending on the breed, which you did not specify, you need to get the proper brush for it's coat type. Short coats need a hound brush, while double coated breeds need a curved slicker. Ask your groomer what coat type your dog has and recommend the correct brush for him. Don't bathe too often, or you will remove the oils form the coat and end up with dry skin.

Read this VERY carefully. THERE IS NO WAY to stop a dog from shedding. I am the proud owner of a 1 year old yellow labrador retreiver and he gets brushed daily, sometimes twice daily because he sheds SOOO much. I recomment using a Shedding Blade. No, its not a knife, it just slicks over the coat pulling out loose hairs. It takes me about 10 to 15 minutes to brush Tevin every day. And its SOOO worth it. That way the hair is off the dog and doesn't get all over the carpet, furniture and everything else in the house.
DO NOT SHAVE YOUR DOG. Shaving should be performed for medicinal purposes ONLY. Your dog will burn, and can develop skin problems. The oil in a dog's coat keeps it healthy as well as the skin healthy. Shaving is not an option for a healthy dog, besides, it just looks ridiculous. However, if you really are allergic to dog hair or something like that, get a poodle. they don't shed.

You can't stop your dog from shedding. It's a natural thing for animals. But what you can do to reduce the amount of hair in your house, is to buy a brush that combs out all the lose hair so you don't have to vacuum all the time.

During the summer you have to brush the dog a lot. But it really depends on th breed of dog. Try brushing 2-3 times a week. It will really work. I have a Black Lab that I brush all the time. Then it finally worked.

Give the dog a bath every week. I have a rottie, they shed SO MUCH, and this cuts down on the shedding more than anything else I've tried, plus then you don't have a stinky dog :)

Brushing will help him on the outside, but a good quality dog food will help him from inside.

take him/her outside and brush it once a day
it sounds funny but it will get most of the hair out and doing it outside keeps it out! :)
