I guess you keep trying. I've had this thing since I was 12, I'm 41 now. Sometimes I feel like giving up. The past few days I have been feeling down, like I'll NEVER get better. But I recognize the fact that I have an ILLNESS that needs treatment, just like diabetes or cancer, or whatever. Sometimes going through depressed times is just all part of my recovery.

Love, Jack

Toughlove Advice:
I think the best thing to do is think about what causes depression. How serious are your thoughts? Do you feel like some event, person or thing caused you to be depressed?
Also, reflect on the power of positive thinking. How would your life be affected if you have a positive attitude? I know personally having a positive attitude has changed my life and I no longer let any event or person get me down. It comes from faith that I will get through things no matter what. For me, the solution is believing in yourself and understanding you'll be ok in spite of fears or worries. Sometimes we create barriers that keeps us from being happy because we're afraid of the unknown.
I know this sounds crazy but some sadness is ok but if you have thoughts that can cause you or someone serious harm, you have a serious problem. I suggest to pray but also understand the power is within you. You can't choose what happens to you, you can only control how you deal /respond to life events. I promise you this is better than any medicine. Psst I used to suffer from depression as well so I understand your struggle.

I have been through chronic depression for most of my life. Meds do not work for me either. I have talked to some really great counslers who have helped me be able to work and get through some really rough times. But I must tell you that the real thing that gets me through my every day life is knowing now that things do get better. You hang on and get through the tough stuff. There will be plenty more Hard things in life that We all have to survive through, just watch the news. I don't know your personal situation, but you are not alone in this world, so many people feel like you do. Its really hard to take good care of yourself when you are chronically depressed. That is exactly what you need. To be taken well care of. Have you ever tried Acupressure??? It is amazing. I have had this do wonders for me as well. Massage therapy , same thing - it makes you feel great!! Take a look at the things you are eating. Plenty of water, protein -fish, chicken, turkey, eggs, nuts. Try having salad too. Fruit is a great substitue for sweets. Forget about soda , fried foods, red meat and sweets. They don't do anybody any good. Socializing is so hard when you are really down, again, something you need to do. Find people who like things that you like. Or try taking a class on something you would like to learn. , IF you are into a certain religion, go> be with others. Find purposes even simple ones that you can fullfill . Gradually things will get better. Time will seem to go slow at first , because you really need to pay attention to your feelings , so that you can learn their valuable lessons. I wish the best for you. Take good care.

I can say that I have been dealing with depression for about 10 years. For most of that time I didn't even know I had this problem. I just thought my life was hell and that I was just unhappy with EVERYTHING!!! I eventually started going to counseling and taking meds on several different occasions, but they worked for me. I don't have health insurance right now so I don't take anything for my depression right now! I have just been trying my hardest to deal with the everyday stressers of my mood swings and unrealistic thoughts. That's really all you can do! If nothing is working for you then you kinda have to try to deal with it. There is no easy way out. Try reading this book called Feeling Good. I forgot who the author was, but I started reading it for a counselor of mine and it teaches you strategies for dealing with many of the problems that you face with depression. You don't need a counselor or meds for this book to help. Maybe this can help you with some of the basic problems you have. It has helped me alot and has given me basic skills to deal with my depression. My symptoms aren't quite as bad as they have been. Also try the system from the Midwest Center for Anxiety and Depression by Lucinda Basset. Do a search on it and look it up. One of these systems should atleast help you! You have to be willing to work hard for change to happen. Hope everything works well for you!

My father was a chronic depressive and my son is too. Some times like years at a time I am depressed. You have to find something that makes you happy please don't pick a person they change with the wind. But a hobby or an event that you really look forward to. I love helping with the newsletter for the local food pantry. I can do all sorts of stuff for them on my computer. I get sick alot and can't do as much but I still try
Pick yourself up and start over each time you fall.

When did you last have a vacation?

Seriously, one thing that has worked for me in the past has been sun on my skin. Once I got up the courage to go out in public in a bathing suit (if you saw me, you would know that this was not an easy thing), going to the beach for a day did me a world of good. The waves and the sunlight really lifted my spirits.

Sometimes when you feel trapped, you have to just get up and leave.

Sometimes the meds stop working because you've been on the same one for a long time and your body has become accustomed to it. Did you tell your psychiatrist that they aren't working well for you? There are many newer drugs, and it may take some adjustment, but there is one that will work for you. Don't stop trying.

Oh hell where to begin...

If you're still in high school- graduation will rid you of all things depressing and stress related...

I'd really like to talk to you one on one though...

I suffered from some HEAVVVYYY depression- I mean some major crap...
My mom's abusive- I have no father, my friends have just screwed me over 9 ways til sunday...I've done some crazy stuff in my life time (I'm only 18 and I sound like I'm 40 because I've pretty much been through it ALL)

Keep a journal... Listen to music that makes you happy and want to DO things...

But anyways I'd really like to...maybe have a conversation with you one on one- kind of a ***** fest- ya know?

terrormt@hotmail.com for MSN (I'm always on)
or kotori_ayanami for Yahoo (I'm on sometimes...)

Ack, You don't need medications to change EMOTIONS...
My field of study for the up coming year in college will be Psychology- and it'd be worth it to know that I can talk to someone who sounds like me...

P.S: If you're not freaking religious- don't seek religious cousil.

Stoop feeling sorry for yourself, get out of you rhouse and make something of yourself! The world is your oyster, are you gonna just let the world pass you by without having a say in it? Walk down your street and say hello to everybody you see. Help people less fortunate than you. Go tot he park and run around like your inner child wants you to. Get a friendly companion(dog)to look after and love and you both can take care of each other.
