At night {After 9:00 PM} there's usually this horrible strong smell from outside {I notice because the window next to my computer desk is usually open.} It smells kind of like between skunk and burning rubber and plastic. What do you think it is? The smell is only around at night. Once I let my cat out and it stayed outside until morning. The next morning, it smelled like the smell I'm describing.

my old neighbors had a sewer thing in their backyard and it smelt horrible at night. i think it's just because there are no other "smells" going on at night, no cars or kids or cooking.

Skunks smell alot like burning rubber, and they are nocturnal, so they are around at night. I would bet that's what it is. As for the kitty, tomato juice helps get the smell out, but that would be hard.

Where I live the smell you describe is the huge population of Bats ~ 'flyin foxes', nocturnal creatures that smell like musky, nasty, moldy, stinky, evil, vile flyin rats! But that's just in a small percentage of the year when the winds are from a certain direction & I'm particularly disenchanted with some of the Australian annomolies...:(
