because when I read beauty articles it always says to hold the blowdryer several inches away from your hair, and to blow in the direction your hair grows. every stylist i've ever been to will hold the dryer directly on my hair and sometimes even blow dry in the opposite direction, like, they'll have the ends of my hair rolled up in a hair brush and they'll be blowdrying it towards my scalp. should i not have tipped them for damaging my hair??

When you want to smooth and straighten out the hair, you do blow in the direction of the hair. For volume, you blow against the hair while pulling the hair outwards.

I'm in Cosmetology school and this was a BIG rule in class last week.
