You should keep walking him because he needs to get all the fat out of him after he eats, so his digestive system works finely.

Where are you walking your dog and what is he stepping in that you need to wash his paws every time he goes outside? Do you have white carpet in your house that you are afraid will get dirty or what? And what does NOT walking your dog have to do with training him to be a house dog? You can't compare a dog and a cat when it comes to whether they need to be walked or not - they are 2 totally different animals. And why are you attempting to paper train a 20lb dog? You say washing his paws every time he goes outside is a pain - what do you call cleaning up soiled papers inside the house after a 20lb dog - a vacation?! For crying out loud, let the poor dog go outside to do his business - this is what dogs do. Letting him go outside and taking him for walks is NOT going to make him any less of a house dog. I have 2 Siberian Huskies, so walking them every day is an absolute must. They love the walks, and it hasn't slowed them down one bit from being house dogs - they love lying around on the floor inside the house.

If your dog is kept inside all the time how is he getting exercise? Dogs need excercise. Having a 20# dog paper trained....YUCK! How can you stand that? I can see a 5# dog being paper trained(not much waste) but a 20# dog? I really don't think that is a good idea. Where do you live that you need to wash his paws everytime he goes out? I can see if it is muddy but all the time???? Sounds like you should have just gotten a cat.

Dogs need to be walked every day. Period. What has taking him out for exercise got to do with him being a house dog?
If it's too much of a pain to wash his paws every time you let him out (which is not good for him anyway), then give the poor dog to a shelter so he can be adopted by someone who will properly care for him.

So the dog just lives inside and doesn't see the light of day because you want to "train him as a house dog"???? That seems wrong. A dog does not get proper exercise and socialization just being inside all the time. It is summer, what is the dog getting on his paws all the time when he goes out?????
You sound like an anal neat freak, and that never works with pets!!!!

All dogs need to be walked on a regular basis. Not only does it help their digestive system but dogs by nature are movers. Regular walks helps them mentally as well, it makes a happier dog. Does that are not walked can have anxiety, aggression, hyper, etc. issues
Having a dog means doing what is best for the dog.
So what if you have to wipe his paws, it's part of owning a dog.

Okay. This is a twisted perspective. Dogs NEED to be walked. You are waaaaay wierd if you think that walking your dog once a week is enough. You should not be a pet owner. I feel sorry for your dog. You're a horrible person!!!

I would keep walking him at least for the exercise. Dogs don't seem to get much exercise just sitting around the house.

You need to walk your dog he will still be a house dog but if you don't he will get to where he will go after people and other animals because he never sees them, walking him is incredibly important to his health, plus it is a way to bond with him and if walked correctly a training experience.some dogs develop behavioral problems if they don't get exercise,so this is very important.

Dogs need to be walked! They enjoy walking with their owner...its not too much trouble to wipe your dogs paws....if so you might not need to own a dog.
