He hasn't been outside in months. He didn't get it from any rodents because we don't have any. How could he have gotten it?

He doesn't have fleas.

Well, if it tapeworms, he got them from fleas. Indoor cats can still get fleas. Roundworm could have come from his mother when he was a kitten if he was never wormed properly.
If he was outside months ago, it could have happened then.

How old is the cat? All kittens are born with intestinal parasites and there is a life cycle of the parasites. It can take months for eggs in the intestines to hatch . If we are talking about tapeworms, which come from fleas then it is possible you brought some fleas in on your clothing.

It depends on the type of worms... if your cat has tapeworms (gooey little booger looking things sticking to his fur around the base of his tail or rice grain looking things) it most likely came from the ingestion of fleas or flea eggs. Fleas eat tapeworm eggs - when a cat eats a flea that has eaten tapeworm eggs, your cat may end up with tapeworms.

The remedy is relatively cheap. Make sure to get flea control for your cat, first. Then go to petsmart or any petstore and see if they have tapeworm tabs. www.petsmart.com and 1800petmeds.com both have tapeworm tabs - 3 pills per bottle for around 15.00 - 20.00. You just give one tab to your cat - and that will last for 30 days. Then if you notice them coming back, you still have 2 more pills left.

Other types of worms can come from you, actually.... if you walk outdoors, you may get roundworm or hookworm eggs on your feet or shoes - and by walking in the house you may give them to your cat.

I wouldn't worry so much about it, most de-wormers are relatively cheap and sold over the counter.

Depending on the kind of worm, I think it might be possible that someone in the home could have brought them in on the bottom of their shoe.

If your cat hasn't been to the vet yet, then he shouldn't eat wet foods, stick to dry foods. Wet foods will give him worms.
