Contact your local temple and connect with practicing Buddhists in your area. Nothing can substitute for face to face interaction.

A good starting point online is:

www.buddhanet.net
provided by the Buddha Dharma Education Association, Inc.

One of the most comprehensive resources online - for both beginner and advanced students.

The website also has an extensive library, starting with the Tipitaki (Buddhist scriptures) as well as many study guides. I also agree with the suggestions of reading books by HH The Dalai Lama and Thich Nhat Hanh. If you'd like further reading suggestions, feel free to contact me.

I like the books by Master XingYun. You could take a look and order some of these books (the English version) in this web site:

You may like to register for Buddhist newsletter from this web site too:

Go to the library and start reading! Try looking on line too, and if you know any Buddhists ask them for guidance as well.

Thich Nhat Hanh is very accesible to the western mind just starting the eastern journey. The first book I read by him was called Teachings on Love.
