some babies do refuse to take breast milk -
the main thing is for you NOT to get too stressed with the situation as this can cause a decrease in your milk production as well as the baby sensing your distress & reacting accordingly.
Breast feeding is the ideal for ALL babies - but for a myriad of reasons it is NOT always best for the mother & sometimes not the child - in reality. the mothers milk production may be poor; her diet inadequate; anxiety over handling everything with a new born( particularly if 1st child)
do talk to a child health nurse or your doctor; or your mother about her experiences. in the end do what feels right for you & your child regardless of anyone elses opinion.The most important thing is for you - MUM- to be relaxed & taking care of yourself

A child who refuses to nurse-do not give a bottle AT ALL! If you do that before they are settled on nursing they might just completely refuse to nurse and prefer a bottle or maybe formula.
Another possibility (rare) is that your child is allergic to your breast milk. Some babies have to eat vile things like goats milk or rice milk. Take him/her to the doctor and rule out an allergy.

How old is the baby? If it is a newborn, it will take a few days for it to suckle properly. Also, do not give it a bottle - if you give it a bottle, have someone else give the baby the bottle. That way, the baby associates you with nursing. If you still have problems, most hospitals have a Stork Line you can call to get help.

You know that breast milk is very important for the baby please don't give up!!!!!!!! And it is natural and nutritious try to stay calm and keep trying!!!!! If the baby won't take to it consult your pediatrician to find out if you should just give your beautiful baby formula that would be the next best thing for him.

get playtex natural action nipples. my mother of 6 and step mother of 1 both used them and they were the only ones that the babies would take to.
