DO NOT DECLAW YOUR CAT. It is inhumane. It is painful for them, and they must go through the pain if they want to eat, drink, defecate, or move. It removes part of their toes as well. Read this: http://www.declawing.com/

This is a cat nail cap. They're easy to put on, cheap, and will stop your cat from doing any damage no matter what kitty claws.

nicely finished! for no longer pondering declawing! There are greater effectual techniques. i might say, by way of fact the cats are already utilising the scrating submit(s), or so I collect, you need to make confident they do no longer use the settee anymore - and for those, i think of overlaying the offensive corners (often the nook it incredibly is closest to the door) with aluminum foil, or double-sided tape, or yet another conceal which would be unsightly to the cat for scratching, yet won't smash the settee. the belief is to make confident they sense the unsightly section no remember if or no longer you're living house. I coated my settee's nook with a undeniable rectangle of cloth (like a small tablecloth); no longer that i'm fairly prepared on the settee (it incredibly is previous, and that i visit heartily propose my landlord to replace it once I circulate out - it incredibly is hardly in good shape for use!), yet i think of it relatively is a theory my cat ought to study. i will do away with the cloth certainly on each occasion I relatively have travellers, if i think of it mandatory. He does not discover the scratching there unsightly... yet he does not discover it exciting the two. Now, with the 2nd (and taller) scratching submit I have been given him, he leaves the settee altogether on my own. the present addition of a carpet interior the mattress room is the subsequent undertaking... ;)

Well of all when he starts to scratch spank kinda hard but just enough to let him know that he is not 2 ever, ever, ever use the couch as a something to scratch then show him where he's supposed to scratch. And do that every time and eventually he/or she will use her scratching post ( or an even simpler thing get him/her declawed ;-) * remember if u show him/her where the cat pad scratchy thing is tell him/her that's where you scratch at then spank them again :-)

As an owner of a undisclosed amount of cats, I can assure you a Squirt Bottle filled with water will stop any cat from doing bad things.... like getting in the garbage, scratching furniture, chasing another cat, touching things you don't want them to touch and so on........... Just a few quick squirts and they spend the next 5 minutes or so cleaning themselves and woundering where the watwer came from as well as they learn to see things the way you desire..... Hope this was helpful.... :-)

My cats wouldn't use their scratching post either. I did douse it in cat nip and they went to town on it. But finally when the cat nip wore off they went back to my furniture so I finally broke down and had them declawed (front only). It is better to have this done when they are kittens and don't weigh much, but cats are rescues and were already adults when I got them, so they really didn't have much choice. But mix some cat nip with basil and put it under the scratching post rug (or ropes or whatever) and then get out of the way.

Cover the spots he scratches with aluminum foil. Cats hate the feel of it on their feet.
Take him to the post a few times a day. You scratch it like he should then show him with his paws.
May take a while. Be patient.

Put a liitle catnip on the post! Have you tried getting a small tupperware container and starting grass seeds in it? cats love to eat plants.

I use to trim my kitties nails (just the white sharp tips, because it you cut the pink, it'll bleed ALOT) to minimize the damage. Put scratching pads (even the cheapo cardboard ones) next to every place he scratches. That'll train him to use the boards instead.

For about 100$ you can declaw your cat. It's a very simple procedure and cats recover really quickly.
I'm a vet and I can tell you that this is the only sure thing that will save your furniture :)
