I think it is very sad she died, and I definitely think our schizophrenic enforcement/not enforcement of our laws sends a very mixed signal to the cost of many people who die crossing the border.

I frankly would be OK with screened amnesty (no gang) for those here, not to bring more family, but only if the system were fixed. And fixed means border security, dismantling the benefit magnets and employment magnets that draw them here, and ENFORCEMENT.

From that story it sounds like the girl is illegally here, yet remaining here. It doesn't say if the father is legal or not, but I don't think the outcome would be different if he were not.

Yes it is sad. However, that doesn't make them legally here. Residency isn't a condolence award. As long as we think 'can't ask immigration status of the person getting free health care' or 'can't deport these guys, they just had a death in the family' we aren't enforcing our laws. Our laws are not bad. They need to be enforced, or no 'fix' we come up with is going to work.

I Got NO SYMPATHY For Border Jumpers

If Your STOOPID Enough To Be In The Desert
Without Being Qualified For The Extremity
You Deserve To Die

"risking your life to find a better life"
Means Exactly That
RISK
If Your STOOPID Enough To Take The Risk
There Are NO Guarantees You'll Live Through It

Thats How I Really Feel About It

Yes, the immigration system sucks for the Mexicans trying to make a good living by working in the U.S. I live in Canada, and know of people who live here and commute to work in the U.S. but it's not as serious an issue as the Mexican border is.
I can't honestly see my hubby working/living across the border for 3 years and know that this is how we'd want to live, even if he IS making alot more money for us. Money can't replace a loved one, and it should never replace them!
Something should be done about this severe situation ASAP.
