Yes, you are stripping natural oils from your hair and drying it out. The heat from the straightner is also causing split ends. I used to be a straightner addict but there is something you can do about it. Stop using the straightner and deep condition your hair. Get about a good 1 or 2 inches cut off your hair to make it healthier, and instead of straightning your hair use a styling mousse to scrunch your hair and make it look cute and curly. After about a month, you can start having straight hair again but don't straighten your hair, blow dry it instead it has the same effect except it damages your hair much less.

YES it does damage your hair BUT if you want to keep straightening it, I suggest you put in a hair cream/gel thing that is specifically made for putting in your hair before you flat iron it so that there is less damage. I forget what the stuff is called but I'll edit it in if I rememeber.

And what you can do to keep your hair from getting TOO damaged is using conditioner whenever you shampoo and hot oil treatments every week or every other week. You should try Vo5 Hot Oil Treatment. It only cost 2.99 for like a pack of 3 I think it was.

Also, you may want to invest in a more reliable flat iron if you haven't already. The cheap kind are the ones that ruin your hair most. Just be careful is all. And if it isn't neccesary to flat iron your hair everyday, don't. But if you must, so be it.

I am a cosmetologist and yes it can make your hair dry and brittle. If you use a ceramic flat iron such as the CHI iron by Farouk it uses moist heat instead dry heat. It works WONDERS once you use it you will never want anything else. Therefore you ALSO need to get some kind of a heat protector whether it comes in liquid or cream form you need something so you don't damage your hair anymore. I flat iron everyday and do as I said and my hair is shiny and healthy (for the most part haha because I color it too much!) Hope this helps

Not if you take care of it. I use a flat iron alot, but use Redkin shampoo and conditioner, they're both called "soft". They're great! I also use a salon product to spray on every section that I flat iron, this protects the hair from the heat.
My hair is curly when left to it's own too, some days I don't want to use the flat iron, and want some volume, so I use my electric curlers for a change. I just put them in long enough to bend the hair, and then take them out again. This gives me volume, these curlers are HUGE so my hair comes out straight after I pull the curls down. Anyway just a few suggestions......hope they help some.

Yes! Unless you buy the very expensive porcelin straighteners, it will ruin your hair. I have already been a victim of this....and I wish I never had bought one. Although I love the look, having healthy, wavy or curly hair would be much better. You are basically frying your hair. Think about it.

Yes, it slowly breaks down the hair. It causes the hairs to split because of frequent tugging from the straightener. The heat doesn't help either.

yes. i straighten my hair every day and see the effects about 2 weeks after i get a hair cut. i get split ends and my hair falls out easier when i brush it. its not fun. however, its not as bad as it could be. i use a TON of conditioner when i shower, i only shampoo every other day, and get a haircut ever 6 weeks.

yeah my hair went really dry and frizzy after i did it for a while. though you can get hair sprays you can put on your hair before you do that will protect it from the effects and any good conditioner should help if your hair does get that way but perhaps just try not to do it too often anyhow.

yes, a lot...if you want straight hair and you have wavy hair, you should just dry blow drying when its half dry after a shower...if you really need a straightener go for a ceramic one
