Junior golf is the key, but surely we need a school of golf with the support of our so called stars working together. Theres a degree in golf in birmingham, but thats not soon enough, i loved golf from the age of 8, so its gotta start around that age if not sooner. And lets not forget those that cant afford it, DJ Spoony is doing a good job about that and I have seen potential in pleny of "less fortunate" children, but the backing just aint there or the advise as to where they go. Was Tigers dad rich when he nurtured him from the age of 4? I doubt it. Its all too individual, we need to combine our efforts and therefore draw on each others experience to help address this situation. The spanish appear to be able to do it, as do the US or even Sweden. WHY?? Theres gotta be something. Yes it requires money, but hell, golf has money if channelled correctely. Lets not be a tennis flop. Faldo is trying his hardest, lets get behind him and more. It needs a bigger push for sure.

to increase the amount of people at the top of the game we need to increase the number of people taking it up at the municipals and public courses.
and unfortunately there are barriers to participating in Golf that there ain't in other sports like Soccer and Rugby, which are two if the most popular in the UK at the moment.
for example before you go on the Golf course you have to have certain things: (minimum list) polo t-shirt, pants, shoes (optional now!), 1 wood, at least 3 5 7 9 irons and a bag to hold them in tees from the shop, and enough balls so that you can do a full 18 holes.
Yes i know that chances are you'll probably go to the driving range with mum or dad before you go onto the course, but there needs to be more invested into Junior Golf to widen the base of people participating at the beginner level, only that way will you get more Juniors going through to competition then performance then Excellence like tiger and the other pros!
Hope this helps,
Nick

Junior golf is on the up in this country. My son has been playing since he was 4 and swinging plastic clubs b4 the age of 2. so many more kids taking it up now it is only a matter of time b4 we win a major. Paul Casey is the man!
The Nick Faldo junior series will bring some more top young kids through (Nick Dougherty already). He will know how to groom a future champion!!

THe guys Luke Donald, Paul Casey, Justin Rose and Nick Dougherty needs to keep improving and coming to the Majors as a threat. The main contenders, Monty, Westwood, Harrington and Clarke has not won the Majors and they were the intended sucessor to Woosnam, Faldo and Lyle. Therefore it take a few years to British golf to become a threat.

In the past and even presently the system in the US promotes and allows young golfers to develop far more than their British counterparts. British golfers tend to be self developed up to a certain stage in their careers.Luke Donald and Paul Casey are 2 good British examples of the US development system. Australia too is very good at developing sports people. Sometimes I think the climate plays a role in the facilities offered to young British golfers.

The biggest reason British golf sucks is Montgomery shooting off his mouth about how he would whip Tiger. He never has and never will. He is not a credit to professional golf anywhere in the world.

look in America. The first tiger came from America, the first golden bear came from America, Jack came from America, Hagen came from America, Jones was American, so the nest tiger will probably be, American.

I think you would need a lot more people to believe that it is a lot more important than putting a little ball in a hole, I can't see that happening on a large scale in Britain.
