I would try to work with some kind of literacy program such as teaching adults to read or making sure that poor children that wanted to read had something to read. The why is easy for me. I believe that a person can improve his lot in life if he can read.

Improve myself and live by example. The same is true for the world community. Talk is the cheapest thing you can do. Actions speak louder than words. Charity beginsin oneself.
Example is a universal language.
Take small steps. Everyone may not appreciate the attepted improvements in the community or in yourself. Be sincere.
