DVD movies, which you can rent from your local Blockbuster, uses the MPEG-2 format. Most DVD movies are 7-9 GB. A single layered DVD blank can hold up to 4.7 GB and a CD can hold up to 700 MB. There are ways to shrink a DVD movie to fit on a single layered DVD blank, which is relatively simple to do. In your case, you want to shrink the movie from 7-9 GB to an amount that would fit on CD's. Can this be done? Yes! Here is how. You need to convert the movie from MPEG-2 to MPEG-4 format. MPEG-4 can shrink a movie to 1/10 of its original size while still preserving the video quality. However, you will need a software program to convert the movie, such as Nero Recode, DivX Create Bundle, and Dr. DivX. These are the programs that I am familiar with; it is likely there are many more. Both Nero Recode and DivX Create Bundle offer a trial version which is fully functional. Dr. DivX is free to download and use. You can find all these progams at www.betanews.com, search for the software name on their site. Important, most standalone DVD players can not play MPEG-4 files. Common media players that can, include: Windows Media Player 9 and above, DivX player and Nero Media Player. Newer DVD players are more likely to support MPEG-4 as this format is becoming more and more popular.

Well, now that you have the required software programs, you will need instructions. Afterdawn.com has one of the most comprehensive guides on backing up DVD's. There guides can be found at: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/

No, it is not possible to do this without losing information from the DVD files. Blank DVD's are formatted to handle these, CD's are not... And when you insert a cd into a player it only recognizes the files or music intended for CD's and the same for dvd's, the DVD Players will not recognize a CD with DVD content on it, most DVD Players will only recognize DVD format From DVD's....Good Luck

It cannot be done, however, you can put a dvd on like 2 cd's. But it will be a VCD or a SVCD, which your DVD player may not support.

Read up some more about it at videohelp.com

They also have software if you do decide to do it. In addition, this site also has tutuorials to help you with the process. This process can take a couple hours of your computers time.

If that was possible, then the creation of DVD would have been pointless.

DVDs can hold 4-7GB of data, CDs can only hold a little more than half a gigabyte.
