Hell is not a place of fire and brimstone. Hell means an afterlife in which you will never be able to come again into the presence of your Heavenly Father. It is a place in which you will never be able to progress and you will be consciously aware of it all. You will be aware of demons around you, who will not have a body of flesh and bones, although you will have a resurrected body. (Good and bad are resurrected, the good are resurrected to glory and eternal progression. The bad are resurrected to damnation).
Very few people will actually go to this place of outer darkness (Hell). You would have to commit the unforgivable sin, of which there is only one. The unforgivable sin has three parts. 1. You would have to know for a certainty about God and Christ. Belief is not knowing. 2. You would have to deny the existance of God and Christ, even in the face of that certain knowledge. 3. And lastly, you would have to seal that denial by the shedding of innocent blood. All three steps are horrific, and very few souls sink to this level.
Everyone else goes to heaven. Heaven is a place of eternal progression.

In a nutshell, my not-so-humble opinion, hell is the lack of feeling love, especially God's love. That is, the further away from heaven, the less you feel love, existing with all the others who are the same as you spiritually.

What you sow is what you reap. Trust me, it's better to work for spiritual righteousness and reap the fruits after you die, then condemn yourself to live the alternative and see what that reward brings.

The Bible describes it as a lake of fire and "where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth." I'm not sure what that means exactly. It also says it's forever. All I know is, it's painful and worse than anything on Earth, and people there are going to spend forever wishing they had accepted Jesus when they had a chance.

Extremely hot. Nothing in this world will be near as hot as the fires of hell. It is supposed to be dark and nothing but pure torment.

It depends on whom you ask and what religion you're talking about. Some don't believe in "hell" at all, while some have multiple "hells."

Hell is a place where people experience the Just consequences for the harm they did to others (by their actions or by the inaction).

God's rules are intended to minimize the harm that we do to each other... and when we violate the rules, we increase evil and harm and pain in human society.

Cordially,
John

Hell is this world right now, it has hate, violence, fires, floods, and everything so this is somewhat like hell.
