I'd go with a gift card to a toy store or music store, or if there is some specialty shop, hobby shop that he may be interested in, maybe a gift certificate for a trial period of karate, fencing, horseback riding lessons or sports clinic.

The gift my 11 year old grandson has liked the best from me was a years subscription to a sports magazine. He's not a big sports nut but when he is in the mood he always has an up to date magazine to look at. Actually any kind of magazine subscription is good. There are lots on video games and hot wheels. Think about that. It's never too late. You could tell him he will be getting them every month starting next month or when ever. Good luck and happy birthday to your cousin!

You can never go wrong with giving him money or a gift certificate. If you want to do something more personal get him like something to do with football, basketball, or soccer.
good Luck!

Maybe you could take him to see a baseball game (minor league is cheap but still great fun) or take him to play laser tag ,that way you can be part of his birthdayday memories

either ask him what he wants for his birthday or give him money. i'm sure he can use that better than any thing else.
