Congrats on your upcoming wedding! I'm from Canada, so I can't give you store names, but my experience. I'm big and beautiful, too, and was worried about what I would or wouldn't find. I found the dress of my dreams at the second bridal shop I went to, and it wasn't even a big city. I had tried a lot on, but the trick was a "dropped waist" - I would never have believed it if I didn't try it on. On top, it was a wide scooped neck (I don't have much in the chest area to balance my belly) with long sleeves. The bodice and sleeves had crystals and sequins and appliques, with the same at different places in the skirt, too. (I disagree with the other post that said not to do that - it made the dress special.) So there was this dropped waist - the bodice was fitted, and this waist came to a point somewhere above my naval, then flowed into a beautiful, elegant skirt - full, but not too full. It was made of heavy bridal satin, which also helped the dress flow nicely. Had a nice long train that helped to balance me out, and the back was beautifully decorated.
Hope that helps a bit. Oh, by the way, I needed a "little more room" for the fitted bodice, and their seamstress put in fabric pieces, that I couldn't even tell that they weren't original - and it didn't cost an arm and a leg. For a headpiece, I had a tiara to match the crystals on the dress, and a simple fingertip veil.

An a line dress is best.
Try the a line type that is a strapped dress at the top with the short bolero like jacket.
David's bridal has a good selection and I really like the ones that have a little bit of color on the edges.

I would go for an A-Line dress with a dropped waist-line to elongate your torso. Even if you don't plan on buying your dress from a bridal shop or David's or someplace, I would recommend going to a place like that to get some ideas on what looks good on you.
I had no idea what type of dress to get, but when I tried on a few at a bridal shop, I was VERY sure as to what would flatter my body and what wouldn't. Some of the ones that I thought would look nice on me, didn't look good at all! And some of the ones that I was reluctant to try on looked great! So, take plenty of time to try on MANY different styles, even ones that you wouldn't think you would like. :)
From one future bride to another, GOOD LUCK!
(and CONGRATULATIONS!!!)

I am a heavy set woman and to tell you the truth I tried on a lot of traditional wedding gowns and they did not work for me. Made my butt look like a horses butt lol. I went out and found a beautiful two piece dress that looked like it was made for me. It was beautiful but not a traditional dress. I had someone do my hair with babys breath all in it. Someone at my bachlorette party bought me a beautiful pearl necklace that match perfectly with my dress. Find that dress that makes you feel beautiful traditional or not. Congratulations!!!!

Look for Black Dresses that has a long neckline, like a V-line up to your chest...below the knees skirt.. look for the dress that's kinda tight around your chest area and alittle bit loose from your wristline to hips... also always wear BLACK to reduce to body fats.
I, myself is kinda like you.. that's what I try to wear to avoid looking like dumpy on weddings or some special occasions.

I tried on every style of dress imaginable. A line a supposed to flatter the plus sized, but I'm short and it made me look gross. I had sleeves, with sequins that went down to the waist. It hid the A line part to it. Please don't wear a dress without sleeves. A friend on mine wore one at it looked horrible. She hates how her "flab" on her back sticks out over the back of the dress.

Pick the one that doesn't draw attention to what you don't like! Also, make sure it is one you are ABSOLUTELY in love with. If it isn't, nothiing in the world will help you feel your best on your wedding day. Perhaps a color - light of course - would do more than PURITY WHITE. My daughter is plus plus size, but she stands tall and carries herself well, but wants to go with a color when she gets married. I made my own, simple, off-white, and I still love it. (Wish it still fit - LOL) So, go with your gut. I knoww it is only one day but you want to look your best.
PS = congrats on your upcoming wedding. remember to spend as much time on the rest of your life as you do on your wedding.

A-line cut, and if larger chested, halter style. Honestly just try on a TON of dresses. I always thought I'd want the total Cinderella, poofy bottom, but once I got it on...ick! Try DavidsBridal.com too, the site can tell you based on your body info you give them.
