I live in Arizona and have severe allergies (just had them for the first time this season). My allergies were really bad in May and June, fine in July, but today for some reason they really flared up. All day today, my nose has been either totally stuffed up or running like water, I've been sneezing a lot, and coughing a bit. Will the Zyrtec (which I have left over from a prescription) work if I take it today, or should I take something else?

My main question is: Will it work TODAY? I just want something that will work right away. Some allergy medications need time before they become effective (two or three days of taking it).

Yes, it will work today.
It just works a little better when you take a daily dose.

Hope you feel better fast!!

I am not a doctor, but i am pretty shure Zyrtec does not have to build up in the body before it starts working, so it should work right when you take it

i believe the way it is prescribed to you is take it with a full glass of water EVERYDAY even if you dont have the symptoms. most allergy meds work the same way. and yes it should clear up your allergies if you take it now

Yes - one way or the other! Zyrtec makes me so sleepy that I can't stay awake....so if it affects you the same way you will be sleeping away and forgetting your nose in no time.
