Yes!!! In the late 1960s students at Kent State University demonstrated against another conflict we had no business being involved in - Vietnam - and our then President, another Republican, ordered the states National Guard (our reserve military) to take what ever means necessary to stop the demonstration. Apparently they thought killing a few students would convince them that dieing in some foreign country that did nothing to us was a worthwhile cause. It wasn't and it didn't work.

Are you talking about Kent State in 1969? That's a long time ago. The Army National Guard was sent to Kent State University in Ohio to help control protesters against the Viet Nam war. The Guard officers panicked and ordered their troops to shoot. There were 3 students killed. Yes, it happened. The Army Guard and various other police and military units were immediately given more and better training, and at least so far as I know, it has never happened with the military again. Now, if you want to talk about the FBI................

I won't deny it. It happened once at Kent State, and it happened BEFORE Kent State in 1968 at South Carolina State University, a historically black university. Students were trying to integrate a segregated bowling alley after the Civil Rights Act had been passed. State troopers opened fire on them one night, killing thee and wounding 28 others. Those wounded were mostly shot in the back and soles of the feet as they fled. This act is known as the Orangeburg Massacre. One highly well-publicized event was the Kent State massacre, where the Ohio National Guard shot 4 students during a period of anti-war demonstrations during 1970.

It happened because Americans were protesting A War. How dare they!
Kent State 1970
The Kent University students had planned a rally at noon when soldiers began to assemble around 11:30 A.M. near the campus ROTC building. The field commander, Brigadier General Robert Canterbury ( in civilian clothes), told the soldiers before the confrontation began, "These students are going to have to find out what law and order is all about."
The Kent State shootings occurred at Kent State University in the city of Kent, Ohio, and involved the shooting of students by the Ohio National Guard on Monday, May 4, 1970. It killed four students and wounded nine others. The shootings were the of four days of increasingly agitated demonstrations by members of the student body. The students were protesting the American invasion of Cambodia which President Richard Nixon launched on April 25, and announced in a television address five days later.
Allison Krause was a student at Kent State when she was killed while protesting the
Vietnam war. The Guardsmen opened fire on a group of unarmed students, killing four of them, at an average distance of about 345 feet. Allison was shot in the back at about 343 feet, fatally wounding her. Allison is often remembered for her statement to one of the Guardsmen at Kent State during those days in May: "Flowers are better than bullets."
At the time of his death, Jeffrey Glen Miller had recently transferred to Kent State from Michigan State University. Of the four students killed at Kent State that day, Jeff was standing closest to the Guardsmen. He was shot in the mouth by a single rifle bullet. He died almost instantly.
Sandra Lee Scheuer (pronounced SHAW-yer) was 20 years old when she was killed. Sandy, an honors student in speech therapy, did not take part in the Vietnam War protests that preceded the shootings. She was shot through the throat from a distance of 130 yards while walking from one class to the next. She died within five or six minutes from loss of blood
William Knox Schroeder.
At age 17, Bill applied for the Army Reserve
Officer Training Corps Scholarship.
Schroeder was killed with a shot in the back.
According to reports, he was not taking part in
the Vietnam war protests that preceded the
shootings, but simply going from one class to the next.
His college roommate stated that he believed Schroeder was trying to flee when shot. "Bill was
332 feet away from the nearest National Guardsman, not much of a threat. He was shot with a
textbook in his hand."
Superman , thats a crock , plastic bullets my &*&**
The Kent State incident forced the National Guard to re-examine its methods of crowd control. The only instruments the Guardsmen had that day to dispel demonstrators were bayonets, CS gas grenades, and .30-06 ball ammunition. In the years that followed, the U.S. Army began developing less lethal means of dispersing demonstrators (such as rubber bullets) and changed its crowd control and riot tactics to attempt to not cause casualties amongst the demonstrators. Many of the crowd control changes brought on by the Kent State tragedy are used today by police forces when facing similar situations.

So some kids at a college went around waving the NV flag chanting Ho Ho Ho Chi Minh. By doing so they prolonged a war and inspired the NVA to kill Americans. You might say the students had a "learning experience". Hopefully they learned not to throw rocks and broken bottles at soldiers while waving the flag of the enemy.
