first you have generalized all the atheist, by this logic you could truthfully say that all the Muslims are terrorists (which we know is not true). second your little green men are not as controversial, or nearly as fun to argue. there is no hard tangible evidence that God exists, and their is no hard tangible evidence that he does not. when something such as faith (or lack thereof), which runs deep emotionally for some people, is questioned it must be defended by the believer (or disbeliever) or that persons reality and entire way of thinking may have to be changed. it is not so different than those with deep faith that adamantly defend that there is a God when presented with the question of whether He exists or not

Many atheists have given serious thought and scholarly study of the Bible and the tenants of Christian beliefs. Only after comparing these beliefs with anthropology, history, and reason did they come to the difficult realization that the beliefs that many adhere to do not hold water.
Regrettably many laws, social customs and norms are rely on Christian belief for their validity
If we asked ourselves "What would the Leprechauns do in this situation?", before making laws and solidifying social customs, you could be sure that the the people that do not believe in leprechauns would be very well studied and prepared to present their arguments as to why this should not be so.
If you believe something despite all evidence to the contrary, --this is called Faith--. Many people are not willing to let go of reason and are therefore have no faith, but it is knowledge and and reason that placed them in this situation--not ignorance

Well trust me it isn't because they deep down believe. Some like the debate and mental exercise. Some are attacking before they are attacked by the theists. Lots of reasons why..such as like theists try to convert, atheists want to convert theists FOR THEIR OWN GOOD. Sometimes it is impossible to get away from all the talk about God so might as well dive in because you're gonna have to listen to it on TV, radio, ads, other people non-stop for the rest of your life.
Example of this: No one walks around saying "I swear to Leprechaun" or "Lucky Charms bless you", or my favorite "You're gonna burn in hell if you don't accept the cookie monster"

Because God said that they would do that very thing. They are fulfilling prophecy.
Mat 24:9c " You will be hated by all nations because of My name"
Luk 6:22 Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you, insult you, and slander your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.
Luk 6:23 "Rejoice in that day and leap for joy! Take note--your reward is great in heaven, because this is the way their ancestors used to treat the prophets.
Joh 7:7 The world cannot hate you, but it does hate Me because I testify about it--that its deeds are evil.
2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will accumulate teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear something new.
2Ti 4:4 They will turn away from hearing the truth and will turn aside to myths.
Isn't it cool to watch self proclaimed atheists proving the truth of God's Word?

because there aren't a lot of people who believe in leprechauns to laugh at. Anyway, why do you Christians keep talking about your religion if you have so much faith in it? Are you so insecure that you need a complete stranger on the internet to confirm your beliefs?

I think it may be that they are insecure in their belief in no God and need to reach out for validation. If they could only prove to someone that there is no God they could be more comfortable with there non-belief. I think there are some atheists who are trying to convert us to non-belief so they can rest better in their unbelief. I would never be converted because I love God so much and He is so real to me. I wonder how one can feel so passionate about non-belief.

Religion is a social issue. I live in society so whether I believe in any deity or not it still can affect me in ways I rather not have so yes I keep up with what is going on with it. Also, it makes for interesting sociological study.

I can answer that. Its because believers in leprechauns dont try to harm society.
If religious people would leave me alone like the believers in astrology, palm reading ( or leprechauns), I would leave them alone too. But christians harm society in many ways.
Examples:
Trying to corrupt science by teaching their religious mythology as science to our nation's school children.
Standing in the way of stem cell research.
Trying to take a way a woman's right to do what she wants with her body
Fighting to keep birth control and birth control education out of the schools, off of TV, etc.
And so on..

A large number of athiests are students of religion and spirituality. However I doubt they spend all day talking about it. If this forum was more religiously diverse you would probably find the athiest interacting with all the religions and not just Christinity.

No matter what a person thinks is right they will always try to convince the other to think like them. Jehovah, Morman, Catholics whatever they all do it. By the way I believe in leprechauns.
