The goal of having a JV team is to develop younger players to eventually play on the Varsity team. If you are a senior, and they kept you on the team, that's one less spot for a younger player who has the potential to move up to varsity in a couple of years.
I rarely see seniors on JV teams, even Juniors for that fact.

actually seniors CAN start on a JV team...
technically, if a senior has never played on the volleyball team before the coach has the right and authority to put them on JV
I know in one case my friend transferred high schools, was a senior, went out for volleyball, wasn't good enough, and made JV

Well, I live in Alabama. And as a high school state rule.. only 7th-9th grade is allowed to play on a JV team... If they find out anyone is disobeying that.. They could give the school a fine and even suspend the coach and possibly the player.
