"living is easy with eyes closed" means that you are not seeing what's going on around you. either you are living in denial, or you are just unaware...

"misunderstanding all you see" means that you aren't getting it.

in the context of the song (Strawberry Fields Forever), I think it means not responding to your world in a responsible manner: just coasting through life, not really living, and not really getting it.

It is an interesting quote. It is also a bit bothersome... I understand the first part- it is easy to live without seeing the ugly and painful things.... by closing our eyes to them. When eyes are closed... we "see" nothing. I tried to find some other quotes to help clarify this... Nothing really comes close.

“Run your fingers through my soul. For once, just once, feel exactly what I feel, believe what I believe, perceive as I perceive, look, experience, examine, and for once; just once, understand.”

“A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.”

“Anyone can give up, it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that's true strength.”

“It isn't that I don't know, it's just that you wouldn't understand if I told you.”

“Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I'll understand.”

I think it means that if we go through life nieve "with eyes closed" then life is so much easier because you don't see all the crap going on around you. Although you might hear it you can interpret it however you want to see it. Just my opinion I usually interpret things differently than other people but yea there ya go. What do you think it means?

It means John was dropping a little too much yellow sunshine back in those days....

Yes, I'm kidding. It means that we tend to not see the world or people around us for what they really are. We project our own assumptions and stereotypes onto them instead, to avoid the challenge of accepting them for who they are.
