I've been awake for 25 1/2 hours now and I'm not even tired (the result of too much caffiene).
I've stayed awake for 36+ hours many times before, my record is 46 hours, and I never hallucinated because of it.
How long does someone need to stay awake before they start hallucinating or is that just an urban legend to get kids to go to bed?

I don't want to hallucinate. I'm not trying to. I just want to beat my 46 hour record and want to know if I can do that WITHOUT hallucinating.

my record was 9 days on the 9th day i was hearing auditory hallucinations (hearing people call my name which was kind of startling and hearing talking when no one was speaking) and had slight visuals. i thought there were flat toad like things under my paper so i was trying to pin them down with a pencil untill i realised what i was doing and stoped and went to bed

A person needs to achieve R.E.M. every 24 hours in order to remain sane. Your brain shuts down at 10 days. Why would you want to experience something like this any way? Question for you are you alone, how an you tell if you are anyway. Get somebody to stay with yu for the whole time and you can both trip. It won't happen you will do something to call attention to yourself and they will gt help for you but don;t be stupid. The brain is not something to play with.

If you stay awak you do not go into REM sleep and your mind will break down. Before you hallucinate you will get paranoid and attack someone..usually takes a about a week to 2 weeks

How long it takes to begin hallucinating is dependent on a number of factors. If you really want to get there, just stay awake long enough.

it depends on the person.
you havent hallucinated but my friend started hallucinating after 9 days. he continued not to sleep for another 3 days but the hallucinations got so bad he started freaking out. i forced him to go to bed cuz he was scaring me and now he's fine. so yeah it can happen. its not just an urban legend.

I think it's true - lack of sleep can cause all kinds of strange things to happen.
Sleep deprivation is not healthy. In fact, if a person goes too long without sleep, it can be fatal.
Please, get some rest. It's cozy. Personally, I love to sleep - it's so comfortable and relaxing. And my cats usually join me, too.
Nighty-night. Sleep tight. And, don't let the bedbugs bite.

You should sleep as normal people do.For some while awakened for so long, unless in your family was happened anything unnatural, for example the serious disease of the beloved one.We divide 2 types of sleeping, the REM(Remote eye movement) and the dreaming sleeping.Normally, after the full night sleeping, every people feel satisfied, except under any chemical substance influence.

you can go mad if you stay awake too long, usually has to be 5 or 6 days, to the best of my knowledge, I think after 2 weeks or no sleep person will die
