Please be aware that there is scientific and intellectual evidence for the existence of God (e.g., see http://www.godsci.org/gs/godsci/evidence.htm)
I used to be an atheist. Over a period of time however, I grew convinced of the existence of the Christian God, and ultimately committed my life to Christ (e.g., see http://www.godsci.org/gs/chri/testimony/seek.html ).

First of all, do you know what religion is? Could it be religion is a set of beliefs? Can religion be proved? I think the answer is yes sometimes it can. Do you believe in good? Maybe you believe in something bad. The idea that you believe anything at all (Other than what you think you already know) is itself proof of religion. I only hope for you that when when you seek you will find something good. On the other hand, Seek and ye shall find; and if you only seek what is wrong, that probaly all you will find. I use to think I knew it all, and then a miricle happened. I realized I don't and in not knowing I found more possibilities than you could imagine. By the way, I made this all up. No spoon feeding necessary. Now the question is without something telling you, or finding some formula that justifies what you believe, is proof the only possibility?

Ok, there is obvious proof that RELIGION exists (churches, people that believe, etc.) So I take it you mean that people try to prove the existence of God.
If you don't believe the evidence "John" gave you in his answer then try this on for size: You can't take your thoughts out, put them on the table and let people see them or touch them. You can't take your love out of your heart and put it on the table for people to see it and touch it. You can explain those things, write about them, even behave a certain way because of them, but you can not PHYSICALLY PROVE them because no one can see or touch the thought or the love itself. Therefore aren't they just as UNreal as God, if PHYSICAL PROOF is what is needed for something to exist?
Maybe, just maybe there are things beyond our comprehension and not on our physical plane of existence - we would be very vain and naive to think we are "all there is and the best and most highest, most knowledgable, of all things that may possibly exist".. Why is it so important for people to believe that the human race is as good (or bad) as it gets? If it is, then oh well, so what, our consciousness won't be around to know after we die anyway. If it's not, then don't you at least want to take that possibilty into consideration? Or would you just prefer to believe the equations and proof someone ELSE gave you because it was written in a different sort of book somewhere?
We have NO IDEA how much in our history books is wrong, or how many things our parents, teachers and role models were taught incorrectly and passed down to us. All possibilities are a possibility (it's called being open - minded, and I don't think it's a religion).

I understand your frustration. My advice to you is just to leave these comments, answers and questions to be what they are. Don't waste your energy on worrying about the stupidity of the people.
When a person starts to think with his own brains and secretly begins to question the "truths" he has learned, the first reaction is to create this support for his old view of the world. It is only natural. Just don't care about it. Let them live through this period. It is very important for them.
What you and me can do? Just relax and let the other people have their opinions.
This a verse from Anthony de Mello:
"There is no explanation you can give that would explain away all the sufferings and evil and torture and destruction and hunger in the world! You'll never explain it. You can try gamely with your formulas, religious and otherwise, but you'll never explain it. Because life is a mystery, which means your thinking mind cannot make sense out of it. For that you've got to wake up and then you'll suddenly realize that reality is not problematic, you are the problem."

Here's a good example of what you are saying:
Pro-creationists have begun to rally behind a well-known mathematician and scientist by the name of William Dembski who has written many papers and books on his theory that he calls the Design Inference.
The short explanation of the ‘Design Inference’ is that he has found that he is able to identify events that occur from random natural causes and ones that occur from intelligent causes by using what he calls The Law of Small Probability which states that specified events of small probability do not occur by chance, which eliminates the possibility of an event taking place by (for example) natural selection as opposed to by intelligent design.
For example, if you were to roll a die 20 times and get a pattern such as 1, 3, 5, 1, 3, 5, etc. you would be surprised. In the same way if you were to roll the die 20 times and get 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, etc. you would also be surprised. These cases where the sequence presents such a particular pattern are what Dembski refers to as ‘specified’ sequences.
Alternatively, events of small probability do occur by chance, such as winning a drawing for a cash prize at an auction. However, that event does not fit a pattern like the dice roll did and, therefore, is termed as unspecific.
According to Dembski’s method the existence of intelligent life on Earth is a specified event that has a very low probability, and therefore, intelligent design must be the correct explanation for the existence of whatever it is he is testing.
Upon reading this it should, hopefully, be glaringly obvious what a complete and utter fallacy it really is. This is, again, a theoretical mathematical method that they are trying to use to substantiate the theory of intelligent design. However, clearly, it’s ridiculous to suggest that things that appear organized never appear by chance. If I throw a bunch of pumpkin seeds into the air it is possible for them to land in a pattern that looks like a bear or anything else easily recognizable, for that matter. That doesn’t mean that God made them do that. It just means that I had a lucky throw.
Dembski could perhaps also infer that this intelligent force, called God, created the stars because of their arrangement in our skies to appear like certain animals or beings. Perhaps, because the stars form constellations in the sky that appear like certain animals or beings it implies intelligent design, but let’s be serious. Constellations are just what happened when the old astronomers played ‘Connect the Dots’ with the sky. They don’t really form pictures. They just appear to. They are just a bunch of random dots in the sky. What they appear to form is completely in the eye of the observer.

A triangle is one shape with three sides...
A lamp is light and heat and flame... all three make up the lamp but there is only one lamp...
There is one "what" : God
But there are three "whos" : Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
There are not three gods, there is one God in three persons.
Just like a cube exists in three dimensions, God has a three dimensional personality...
These are all imperfect illustrations but I hope it helps?

These people seem to have an insecure faith if they need to "prove" their beliefs.
Isn't true faith belief even without proof?
