I want to adopt a kitten but it has to be old enough to be microchipped due to frequent moving. How old is too young for such a service?

If you go to the humane society they should tell you at what age but the kitten has to be at least 8 weeks old to be adoptable and that is at what age they were microchipped. They even did it for free.

If the cat hasn't been spayed/neutered yet have it done during the surgery. The needle is pretty big (my vet showed it to me) so that would be the best/ least painful time to do it. Otherwise anytime should be ok, the vet will know for sure

Most shelters mocrochip them before they go to new homes, and they frequently do 8 week old kittens.

What I would recommend is doing it around six months when the cat is being spayed or neutered. That way they don't feel a thing.

Call your local vet and ask, vets don't charge for asking a question. Some vets chip at younger ages than others.

Check better with your vet but I don't think there is an age restriction....
