I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT NO ONE HAS SAID ANYTHING ABOUT YOUR BURNING AMERICAN FLAG YOUR ARE USING FOR YOUR AVATAR!!! WE AMERICANS HAVE THE FREEDOM TO DO ALL KINDS OF THINGS BUT WITH THAT WE ALSO HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO BE RESPECTFUL TO OTHER LESS FORTUNATE COUNTRIES.YOU EVIDENTLY HAVE NO RESPECT FOR ANYONE!!!You evidently have time to put Americans down but not enough time to do anything morally correct or to correct issues that you don't agree with.At railway stations or bars, if that is where you think is the best place to hang out with yourself and worry over bathroom/restroom definitions, Americans say restroom. At home or a hotel it is a bathroom, even though new homes today have a separate room for the commode only. A toilet is where you must leave your home and walk out back down a path to a small smelly building big enough for a one or two holer, also known as the outhouse or privy. Find something positive to do with your life!!!!! change your avatar!

different words and expressions have different meanings on the opposite sides of the big pond. I visited London years ago, and (in the hotel) the bathroom only had a bathtub. Fortunately, I finally heard one flush in the W.C.
US versus UK
elevator - lift
exit - way out
butt - bum
bum - tramp or beggar
the list is huge
if you come to US from UK, don't ask a girl if you can knock her up ----- that means make her pregnant

It simply done to confuse those who visit America!
We in America think that our way is "right" and we tend to confuse the dickens out of those who visit, because "they are funny" :) LOL!!
No, seriously.. We invented the term bathroom, toiletries, comode, restroom, etc..etc...
Now, watch out!! We now have the Recreational Vehicle just to confuse you again about where my house is... (Its parked down the street, at the corner of Vine an Broadway, broke down again... And if your kind enough to visit me, just bring a tow truck so I can pull into the 7-11 for a while, so I can grocery shop and then decide where I want to go the next time around... :)
Oh yes, we have a "porta potty" in there too :)
I wish you well..

You mean call it a "water closet"? In China, the only English term that many people knew was "WC".
No everyone calls a "toilet" a "toilet". And not eveyone realizes what the local slang is.

Isn't a toilet usually INSIDE a bathroom ?! To say bathroom sure as hell sounds more decent then saying toilet in my opinion.

It's just local lingo. American English is just another dialect, anyway. If you ask where the toilet was in one of our restaurants, I'm sure we'd know what you're talking about. Different names for the same things. I'm sure it doesn't really matter, so long as we can understand each other.

Just about like the Brits calling it a loooo. Or them calling parts of a car a boot or a bonnet. Do they think our feet go in the trunk? Or our head under the hood? I could go on and on.
