make sure it is really something you are BOTH ready for; the first time is as much about emotions as about the actual act.RELAX ; take your time; if either has doubts- STOP; relaxing environment would be beneficial as well. make sure you have the time to just stay holding each other after the event :- you don't get up & rush on to other things. Naturally you will probably both be somewhat nervous- this is all part of any new experience
BEFORE this happens do make sure that you have BOTH discussed & taken action about contraception.
It is YOUR responsibilty as well as your girlfriends.
also DON'T expect everything to be fantastic your first time; but if you both take your time about things then the experience should be very enjoyable ; probably better to just let it all happen maybe on a week end away than to set things up also

If you are young, encourage her to wait a year or two. If you are going to engage in sex anyway, have a support network ready incase she encounters depression. A counselor who is willing to be sensitive to your situation which I know can be hard to find since many religions and adults feel sex is not for young folk. Just know it can be dicey. take precautions of many kinds (birth control and support).

Make sure you use protection, first of all. Second, if she is a virgin you need to make sure that she is practically begging for it. If you hear her moan and she is "moist" then that is an excellent sign. Start of slowly, there is no hurry, and make sure you tease her, a lot. Ask her what she is wanting/needing. If you can be in tune with your girlfriend, then that is half the "battle," not that it's a battle. ;-)
