No. Evil is not necessary at all. But it does exist and a lot of people believe in it too.

There is no such thing as if there is good there is evil. That is why the whole world and the whole religion thing stinks.

There are a lot of things that would work best if the opposite was not there.

For example someone on television said

Life and death are two sides of the same coin.

See how we read it or under stand it.

Life and death are not opposites although good and evil are.

Life is a part of death.

Good is not part of evil. Evil is evil and will never be a part of good or good will become evil.

It is like this. When you have one glass of water full of sweet water and another glass of water that is salty water.

Mix the two together and fill the glasses again.

There is no more sweet water. All of the water became salty.

So if good and evil mix, they will become evil.

Sweet does not remain sweet when added with salt.

I have always thought so. Otherwise, life would be like a movie that portrays a good guy without the bad guy and how much sense would that make. I heard it said one time that we wouldn't know we were having a good day without bad days to compare it to. I know this is a little week, but bare with me. Without opposites, only potentiality is represented, the will, add the opposite extreme and the manifestation is represented. Life would be impotent with out one of the two extremes. Take a look at it hypothetically. Someone murders another person in cold blood. The whole of society is put to the task of taking moral inventory. They examine their emotions and control some. Closer to home, the family that is involved have to pull together to get through it. They are faced with life's most awesome challenges and this will change them forever. They value life more, perhaps take up a cause, but most importantly, they begin to cherish each other and their lives that much more. Think of the murders family and all that they will face in much the same ways. As weird as it sounds, everyone has an opportunity to become more enlightened more stable in their future journeys, more ready for the inevitable, and they can console those of us at our darkest hours. It so much a part of the human experience, having a crisis or a tragedy happen before we will do this. There is no other way.

There is no such thing as "Good" or "Evil". These are just words to describe how people view things in different cultures and societies around the World. What's "Good" in one may be "Evil" in another. To this day there are South American tribes that consider it "Good" to run through the jungle to the neighboring village and bring back the actual heart of one of that tribe. In many religions it is "Evil" to kiss a member of the other sex before a certain age. Seeing as I have no way of knowing if you are a member of that South American tribe or not, all I will say is you are going to have to make that decision on your own.

Evil, by it's very nature, is all bad. It is also very neccessary. Can't have good without bad , yin without yang, salt without pepper and so on. Don't confuse an evil person who does a good thing for this situation. A person cannot be all evil. They can be 99% evil but not 100%. There has to be something good about them. No one may ever see it but it's in there.

Evil is necessary. Just as you have to endure bad times to really appreciate the great things you have, part of the internal struggle we make with good and evil is what makes us who we are. We're imperfect, and the world is full of good and evil, and so are we. But we're alive, and moving forward, and learning from our mistakes. Evil is just a part of the puzzle.

What is good, what is evil, to some homosexuality is evil. I am not gay and I don't consider it either good or bad. It just is. Is anything totally good or totally evil. The soldiers, smashing the heads of enemy babies in, are true believers in their cause. They think they are doing good, not evil. Let every man or woman look at his or her own actions and decide for him or herself what is good and what is evil and not judge others, unless that other person is a judge.

I would rather evil NOT be here, but seeing as it is, I can see the good that comes out of it. For instance, evil makes you appreciate good alot more. Also, the quote "we learn from our mistakes" shows that evil is necessary in order to become a better, stronger, more beautiful soul (That is, if we chose to "learn from our mistakes"....)

This is simple. Draw a line on a piece of paper,on one end put evil on the other good.Mark the center, lightly, now place two items on the line. one good ,one evil. then two of each again. Where they always the same side? Without evil things how can you know or judge what is good?

Yes, actually evil is necessary in order for there to be good.

How would one ever know what the light of day is without darkness to compare it to?

How would one ever know the feeling of soothing warmth, without knowing what bitter cold feels like?

Don't get me wrong, being intentionally evil is a horrible thing. But our existence rests upon a duality, it is called balance in the universe.

Being evil would be being evil. Being good would be being good.

Maybe a necessary evil, to bring about good, is required.

Depends upon your faith as well, would answer more but my Ying got tangled in my Yang and it's getting uncomfortably warm now.
