Dogs do sometimes eat there puppies when there is something wrong with them. I had a great dane Dutches who ate one of her puppies. It would cry and would not stay with the rest of the litter and I went outside later and caught her eating it. Not a good sight to see. I freaked out. But the other 7 were ok. I have also had a Chihuahua when I was 10, I am 28 now. When she had her 4 puppies she had NO idea what to do with them and when I would put one of the pups up to her to nurse her, she would run from them. She was terrified of her own pups. So like someone suggested, some dogs do not make good mothers. And by the way, all of mine died also, so I know what you are going through. But now I have a 4 beautiful healthy Shih-tzu puppies (2 boys 2 girls) and there mom is an excellent mother. Again some dogs don't make good mommies.

Don't feel too freaked out about her trying to eat the puppy. In nature after a dog has its litter it eats the placenta and any dead offspring to get rid of the scent so that predators don't come looking for an easy meal. The same is true of the dead puppy, she is just following her instincts. Remove the dead puppies, as she does not need a typical mourning period over the body like a person, clean her up and get her to a vet to have her uterus emptied and scraped to get rid of bacteria or you could lose you dog as well.

This must be her first litter. The last one may be alive, but you should not get your hopes too high. Is there an emergency vet hospital in Dubai that you could call to find out what to do?

You will have to wait until she calms down before you can remove the dead puppies. If she killed them, there may have been something wrong with them, or she might be one of those dogs that do that. My suggestion would be to keep an eye on her and, if she won't let you get close when she is having the puppy, don't force it on her - you want to keep her as stress-free as possible.

Good luck - I hope the last one lives. ;)

The chances are the last one is dead also, she has been in labor too long. And she most probably is on her way to a real good infection (the dead pups have started to decompose inside of her body). You will need to take this dog to the vet. I would go now.

Your dog is extremely freaked out and will most probably eat the puppy. Not all female dogs are good mothers. And if this is a first litter she really has no idea what is happening.

You need to restrain your dog (she is small so wrap her in a towel) and head to a vet. The resulting infection from all of this can kill your dog.

For future reference, if after a couple of hours of pushing & contractions, you have no pups get to a vet for a c-section. Many toy breed dogs can not deliver normally. Especially apple head chihuahuas. And I would spay this dog, motherhood isn't right for her.

I know that you are upset, but try to remain calm. The more freaked you get, the worse the dog gets. Make some calls, find a vet, bundle her up and away you go. If you have a muzzle, use it.

Oh, one final note, don't bury the pups (or parts of pups) in your yard. She will dig them up and finish eating them. Sorry, gross but true. Take them to the vet with you for disposal.

There are aspects of dog breeding that are very stressful and unpleasant. This is one of them.

If you think she may hurt her live pup, attrac her attention to you. Females become very protective of their babys and get snappy, when they normally don't. Take the dead pups out and away from the mom. Good luck, I hope she has at least one live births, so's she does not get depressed.

Get over it. Take the puppy to the trash. She will feed her young and move on. Dogs are not that sensitive. Out of sight out of mind.
