My dog has never been perfect. But we moved into a new place about 2 months ago. and just recently (in the last two weeks) he has started pooping the the carpet in the upstairs hallway and in my office... why all of a sudden? we've been here for 1.5 months with no problems. nothing else has changed.

Probably too much wet food. Don't feed him as much canned/human food.

Assuming no physical ailments (worms, intestinal problems) and assuming you are taking him out on a regular basis, then it's usually one of two things: (1) dogs pee/poo by scent. In other words, they smell where they (or another dog) has gone before, and it lets them know that that's where "the bathroom" is. If the carpet wasn't cleaned perfectly with an enzyme cleaner from the first accident -- and the first time probably was an accident -- then his nose will tell him that subsequent trips to "the bathroom" is on the carpet again. (2) dogs will never ever ever ever pee/poo in what they perceive to be their den (unless they are sick). You might have to do crate training with him, to establish that your house is his den too. He very well may not perceive this new home as his den, even if it's been 2 months already. If you aren't familiar with it, do a search on "crate training" or send me an email, and I'll explain further.

Did you have carpet where you lived before. Dogs like to poop in soft absorbant areas. My dog never wants to poop on the street or sidewalk, always on the grass.

thats strange. maybe he doesn't like the carpet. keep him outside and when he poops outside tell him good dog and give him a cookie. when he poops inside say bad dog, no and whack his butt.

I love dog poop. You should too. Embrace it as a gift of god.
