I am a mother of a high school senior. He's very intelligent and so far, so good BUT AND THIS IS A BIG ONE...........I think the whole thing sucks personally. There are very bright kids out there not passing the FCAT because they aren't "test takers" and/or other reasons - yet still get good grades through school. I don't like ANY of the Bush family.

Students everywhere have to take some sort of graduation test pursuant to the NCLB Act. You're not alone. Coming from a family with teachers, it has wreaked havoc even on the students with the best grades, who fail just enough not to graduate. Here where I live, they gave the test to teachers to see what would happen, and a good percentage of the teachers failed it, too.

As with most states, the FCAT is to make sure you have actually learned enough to survive outside of high school. If you can pass it then you get to graduate and move on to bigger & better things. If you can't pass it then you're not ready for bigger & better things.

same reason people in TX have to take the TAKS.
it's a standardized test to see if you are worthy of a high school diploma, and whether or not you have the basic academic skills to survive past high school.
