Put him in underwear, I had to do it with my son, while it will wear on your patience, he will not like to be wet, or stinky with underwear on, start with a few hours when you are home, and then extend the time, especially if he is in daycare I am a toddler teacher and we take our kids potty about once an hour when they start, use the pullups or better a diaper at night (diapers are cheaper and a three year wont want them on during the day) though, my son wore them at night till he was just over 4 cause he wet the bed. Take him to the potty about every 45 mins when you start, and give him a sticker some kind of very small reward, once he gets the hang of it, reduce to rewards to something like a dollar store trinket at the end of the week if he stays dry, we do that at daycare, and I did it with my son. Good luck some kids are tough to potty train, but my mom always said you never see a child in kindergarten in diapers.

My third daughter will be 3 in Oct. and she also loves her "underware diapers" ie.PullUps. She wants nothing to do with the potty other than to use it as a climbing aparatus. She only wants to sit on the big toilet so she can flush - not that there is anything to flush. I am giving up for now and will wait until she shows some interest. I guess it is true that each child is different and will do everything at his/her own pace. Just be patient and let him have his PullUps for now. Good Luck.

I have learnt that you can not trick a child to use the potty or toilet.
I have also learnt that you can not train a child to use the potty or toilet.
The more anxious you become for the child to use the toilet the more the child will not.
Let him wet his undies during the day and don't get upset about it. When and if he does use the toilet let him know how happy you are in an extreme way that he will notice and want to see you be very happy. When my kids were discovering the toilet I used to praise them and kick up such a fuss about how great they were they loved to watch me go crazy. Never never be upset if they have accidents and soil themselves. I know it can be hard sometimes but it will work. I think a child will appreciate praise more than bribes.

I wish I could help, but my stubborn little 2 and a half yr. old won't even sit on the potty! He's my third child, you would think I would have this down to a science by now. Maybe try finding some cute little boy underwear he might like better than the pull-ups. Then again you could just let him do it in his own time, how many adults do you know in pull-ups? HA HA. Good luck.

refrain from giving him his favorite snack. tell him he can have some each time he goes potty.each time he so much as pees a drop in the toilet give him some. just a little ,2or 3 single m&ms ,not the whole bag. if he doesnt go u CANT break down and give him any. no matter how upset he gets .peer presure is very powerful. have his older brother or cousin go in front of him . when they finish reward them with the treat. u CANT give him any unless he does the same. good luck . every child is different . but everyone i know who has tried this with 2 1/2 yr. old children and older has had succes in about 2 wks.

I opted no on the pull ups. I tried those for a while but then I went with boys underwear for my son. It takes some time, but try moving the potty seat near a tv or something and get him adjusted to wearing the underwear and goodnights at night. Its a work in progress sure but it works.

As an (old) pediatric nurse, trust me...... if he isn't ready, it will just cause frustration for both of you. When he goes to preschool, day care or babysitters and can be around others who are going " on the big potty" he will get the message and will let you know when it's time! If you feel the problem goes on too long however, discuss it with your pediatrician. Good luck!

Take him to Toys R Us let HIM pick out a toy for you to buy, keep the toy in the bathroom where he cant reach it and tell him he gets the toy when he goes potty in the toilet like a big boy. Good old fashioned bribery!

I had trouble with one of mine(I have 4). What I did was kept a bowl of m&m's in the bathroom and used them as rewards for going to the potty. It worked great, but she did get hooked on m&m's.

Get rid of the pull ups, set a timer, use a simple chart, go with him, ask often, and teach him that underwear are way cooler than any pull up he can find. Let him pick the ones he wants out at the store.
