I'm of Mexican ancestry. Neither I nor any of my ancestors "crossed the border legally" So what am I doing here?
Also, as far back as I can remember there have been white people that have told me to "go back to were you came from". I must have heard that or a variation of that nearly a hundred times in my life so far.......so what do they mean by that?

I'm sorry but this is kind of a trick question. You see I was born in TX as my mother before me, in fact I have traced my family tree in TX from before TX was part of the US, and honestly If I could look further, there is no doubt I would find ancestors from that region from before TX was part of Mexico. I just wanted to prove a point on how ignorant some people can be when it comes to how this country developed and the origin of all it's people. I am proud to be an American citizen, but I know, that just like the rest of the world this country is not perfect....What concerns me the most, and has been all my life, is that, which makes this country beautiful (it's diversity), is also what brings out the worse in it. Racism has always been a part in my life..

As a small child I remember everything from watching my parents being publicly ridiculed and name called to being beating up in school.......for the simple reason that I was deferent.......but what has always angered me the most was that statement...."Go back to were you came from!!" I know the majority of the US's citizens are a product of migration........with the exception of natives.......and believe it or not.....Mexicans (i am proof of that). People seem to forget that Mexicans used to inhabit most of what now is southern US, and even further back from before they were Mexicans, and were simply known as natives.

I do want to think all of you who answered my question in a positive way, honestly from all that I have been reading on yahoo, I was expecting more racial or negative answers......I am honestly happy to see that I was wrong, and things in our beautiful country may be changing in a positive way after all =]

BE PROUD:

To walk down the street, and be judged for who I am, To not be To look through your eyes, And see everyone is not. To not look like you, To be different, Only Shows, That I am proud. Proud of who I am. how I look. where I come from. who I am. to not judge someone, for how they look.To be there for all. to see past the color. to see past the differences.to finally say,I am proud.

The place I come from.the pride that I have.to know my heritage,
and know who I am. to hear what my ancestors went through,
So I could live, with the joy in my heart, the love in my soul. to know what is right, and do what I do, Only shows,I am proud.

Proud of my life. to know what I know. to show everyone, the person I am, the heritage I know, the people I see. To walk with my head held high. To have pride in who I am. As my time draws near, I take a look back. I see what I have done.to remember the things I did. to know that I.. have made a difference, In the lives of those I know. to know that now,I still am proud.

Let a man decide, Let them learn to understand the sounds and motions. If man would pay attention to these preferences and seek what is best to do in order to make themselves worthy of that toward which they are so attracted, they might have dreams which would purify their lives.

May we learn .. to live together as one .....So that we may finally ...live together...in Peace....

Anddddddddddddddddddd...

If you were born in this country then you are an American Citizen. So when people are rude to you, just tell them that you are an American and you belong here. The one group of emmigrants that were so badly treated worse than any one, even the Mexicans were the Irish. The Irish emmigrants were treated worse then a herd of cattle. When they came to this country from Ireland, they died by the thousands coming over on old ships from Ireland. They suffered terribly. Read the story called the Patatoe Famine. It was terrible and when the Irish came to Quebec, Canada, they died like flies. There are mass burial grounds in Canada. That was North of the Border. So emmigrants have a history of suffering. The Mexicans have suffered and so every other emmigrant. You just have to remain strong, and think positive. Take care of your own, and ignore rude people, who are limited. When they tell you to go back where you came from , just tell them about your good Mother.

Well, you just said you didn't cross the border legally so you're probably not a citizen. If you went through the steps and became one, good for you, if not they mean get the hell back to Mexico. We don't want people here who can't obey the rules and if you can't follow the rules just about living here, how many other ones are you willing to break?

LOL I think a lot of the responses you have received prove that you can not debate with ignorant people, because the vast majority of the anti-illegal can not read! So sad, that I wasted all my time typing a question to the racist people regarding culture, because if I knew they couldn't read I would not have wasted my time. I had one response even tell me her Spanish ancestors were here prior to anyone else, just them and the native Americans, so I guess we have a new "founder" of America that choose to remain anonymous until now.

Are you Mexican or American? If your ancestors where mexican, you have my sympathys, but the point is, if you have a problem with this country, or the white people that run it, maybe, just maybe, go against everything your head is telling, and give in to the status quo.....go home.

and uh, don123456789,,,,,,America was founded by the white people.....before that it was just an empty clusterfuck

Yeah what are you doing here? Not you or and of your ancestors crossed legally right, that is why people tell you to go home. We are sick and tired of our tax dollars going to educate your children, pay your hospital bills and then you take our jobs. Our tax dollars got to not only educate your children but we have to have special teachers to teach them in Spanish. My husband is of Mexican origin too but his parents came here legally and became citizens, because of people like you we also have to hear go back where you came from. So why don't you go back where you came from and take your whole family with you. Come back when you can do it legally or don't come back at all!

They are just saying you should go back to Mexico cos apparently this is not your country. I have heard this comment a few times myself. It's just ignorance. America was built by Immigrants. I just can't see why some ignorant people will think it is theirs and everyone else should move back to where they the ignorant people believe they came from.

Alex, either become an American, or cross the border one last time. America was built on immigrants.
