I think everybody is gullible to a great extent. Humans tend to like answers, even if they are made up ones. We tend to fear the unknown. Therefore, we're just more comfortable pretending there is an uber father figure in the sky. Also, most Christians are brought up as Christians. Children are very gullible, and Christians take advantage of this fact when indoctrinating them in their religion. Many effective tactics are used including threats, guilt trips, and promises of great reward after death.

I wasn't around (to my knowledge) when Jesus was, or when God spoke to people (supposedly), so I have no idea what parts of the Bible are true or not. It's a History book for crips sake! The true word is written in our hearts and minds.
However I will add this; You cannot take your thought out of your head and put it on the table for me to touch and see, anymore than I can put God on the table for you to touch or see. You can explain your thoughts, describe them, tell me what they do for you, how they make you feel, but you cannot produce PHYSICAL PROOF that they came from your head - therefore thoughts are no more real or unreal than God is.
Also it is a conceited and naive people that believe that we have gone as far as we will ever be able to in technology and we will never be able to create a machine that can prove or disprove the existence of something that is aware of itself but not on OUR physical plane of existence. You can call it God, a Force, Energy or a self-aware form of life. what you call it doesn't matter.
