"thank you" is all you have to say, and say it with a smile. You don't have to play tit for tat and find something to compliment them on, you don't have to say, "Oh, it's just an old rag," or "Oh, I was too nervous," or in any way put yourself down, because that's like saying to the other person, "You have no taste at all."
Just say 'thank you' and let it go at that.
