I taught mine to shake and give high fives. I also taught my cat to come to me when I ring a bell. Normaly I feed him dry food. I bought can food that he really likes. I opened it and the sound of the can opening was enough for him to come running in. I rang the bell and then gave him the food.

Now all my cats come running when I ring the bell. I give them the soft food for treats. I also do that with the stray cats but they just get regular food. When they hear the bell they know they are going to get food.

Really this isn't a new idea. It's called classical conditioning. A Russian scientist by the name of Ivan Pavlov (1849-1936) began to study the link between stimulus and response. His famous experiment was when he taught a dog to salivate at the sound of a bell.

I have taught my cat to sleep on a little quilt and if the quilt is not placed in the lounge he will wait outside the lounge for me to get it before he goes in the lounge to sleep . He also waits by the bowl for his food very patiently without crying until he is fed .He will go and sit by the fridge if he wants milk and sit by the biscuits if he wants biscuits. When I go to open his food he starts to jump up and down and then waits for me to give him a taster of food off the cutlery. He trys to talk to me by moving his mouth if I talk to him and he has learned that he can only sleep wher I place his his little quilt and like your kitty he begs with a paw when I he is hungry . However , I still can't seem to stop him scratching my very expensive stair carpet !!

I did teach one of mines the same trick. He decided it was way too boring for him and instead he learned on his own to beg for water from the fridge, to lay on the sink, to fetch like a dog & turn off the playstation.
