Usually they are put done with a propane crematorium. In a private cremation they do just the one pet, in mass cremation, many animals are done together. The ashes are then returned to the owner if it is a private, or buried if a mass cremation.

I have had four of my dogs privately cremated and gotten the ashes returned.

Dogs are creamated in the same type of process as people, just a different facility. We had our dog creamated and the process was we took him to the vet that we alway had from there the person who does the cremation picks up your pet. When we got our beloved dog back he was in a beautiful cedar box, that has a lock and a key. His remains are processed somehow into a brick form that is in a heavy plastic bag then that bag is inside of a very beautiful velvet bag that they had sewn with the words I'll meet you at the rainbow bridge. It was inside of the cedar box. It also came with a poem called the rainbow bridge and a certificate with the number and day of his cremation. It actually was more then we even thought it would be. We had alot of concerns about whether we would really get our dogs remains back but we could really tell that the people who took care of our dog really understand and care about the families who have gone through this loss. On the cedar box they even engraved his name and death date. It was worth every penny we paid. They also did a paw print for us in cramic. It was very beautiful also.
