that the atheist reads verses 'Out of Context' when you disagree with them?????
I know there are alot of christians that seem to presume that with almost any atheist.
I know myself is not afraid to read the bible. I can read chapter after chapter, book after book. I was once a christian for many years, am now atheist. I personally, am well aware of reading entire chapters and also getting background information on the books, authors, the history, in order to gain greater understanding on what is being written.
So are there many christians that do not presume the atheist only reads in part?
I may post out of context, but i dont read out of context.
If so.... please remeber that i said I dont.... my name is "CJUNK"
And I will remeber yours.
thankyou
PS
I dont just have the bible here. I have Koran, "Gita", pluss many other books. And no its not because I am 'searching' etc. my reasons, are for another 'post'.

I"m a christian and I don't... I think you're probably encountering mostly people who were raised in the faith and never questioned it. I was raised catholic, became atheist and then was saved. I studied natural history at a well known university and know evolution as well as I know the bible. I don't dismiss ideas because they don't fit into a preconceived notion I think everything should follow. I think science is a valuable tool in understanding ourselves and god. But as for your direct quesiton, no I listen to atheists with as much seriousness as I listen to anyone else, it's always a good thing to question your faith, otherwise it's blind.

I am a Christian, but I do acknowledge that some atheists are not only educated but also very well meaning. So it is certainly possible for an atheist to know enough to not read a verse out of context.

However, that refers to a literary context, and also perhaps even a historic context. What is more difficult is whether there is also a spiritual context that has to be considered, because the Holy Spirit helps us to understand and interpret the Bible.

So I believe you when you say you do not quote a verse out of context, but I also believe that there is an additional spiritual dimension of understanding that you might be missing.

But I respect and honor the fact that you are reading the Bible at all, and I wish you blessing in your reading!

I do not believe all atheist never read the Bible; as a matter of fact, I believe that when it comes to the Bible, some atheist know it better than some 'Christians' in this country. If more 'true' Christians read the Bible, perhaps some of the changes to it, THAT DO EXIST, would not. So I currently understand why some people are turned off by 'Christians' in this country.

Really not sure where you are going with this question. I don't assume Atheist have never read the Bible, neither do I assume that Christian have.

But, I will say this much. Jesus told us to doubt and seek the truth for ourselves. So if you are on a different path of seeking truth than I am, what does it matter? We are both seeking truth aren't we? I take one road, you take another, and we'll probably end up at the same finish line anyway.

"I may post out of context, but i dont read out of context."

What? So does that really make it any better? "What I say may be wrong, but I really know what I'm saying is wrong." LOL. I'm not quite sure how that is better; it's actually worse. Christians are just giving you the benefit of the doubt. Something that you seem not to want.

I havent even read your question. This is a comment to the answer you posted on my question. Why do you assume that because that because I spoke to my dad about this that I am young? What is young to you? Cause at my age, 29, no one has said I was 'too young' in a long time. I just still believe my daddy is the smartest man I know!!!!!!

I think that too many christans today believe that not only do you have to believe in god but you have to believe in their particular denomination in order to go to heaven. I don't believe that. I believe that if you try your best through life, are honest and good as any human can be, believe that there is at least "somthing" greater than yourself, and focus your life on others instead of yourself then what ever is in the afterlife will find you. If god really intended for everyone to know "HIM" and worship "HIM" in the "Christian" way, then he wouldn't have given us so many cultures. People are way to biased and need a reality check.

I usually assume an atheist knows the bible somewhat so I never assume that. I have met many "ex-Christian" atheists like yourself as well. Okay, CJUNK, I shall remember you and I am Sleek.
