It all depends on the drug. Say for instance you have developed a dependency on opiates, such as oxycodone, morphine or hydromorphone, the withdrawl from this generally last about a week, although it can be more or less intense for each person, depending on their level of addiction and chemistry.

If you provide more info, I could get more specific.

www.erowid.com is an excellent site to refer to for drug specific info.

You know, it depends on the substance and it depends on the person. Everyone's make up is different, and drugs are all different. Some people may have a severe addiction after just a short time, whereas others may not (depending on the substance) For instance I had no trouble quitting cigs, and my husband just can't seem to stop, and he has no trouble dieting and I just am so addicted to ice cream!!! (add whatever drug you are having trouble with and it's the same deal)

Withdrawal symptoms would depend on the substance being withdrawn from. Some are mild - some are severe enough to require hospitalization. Typical acute narcotic withdrawal symptons can last from 24 to 72 hours and include: nausea, tremors, sweating, hallucinations, nervousness, fatigue, violent mood swings, psychosis, headache, body aches and seizure. It's not pretty.

Why ask cops? Do you assume they are mostly drug addicts? Actually, it depends on how strong the adictive qualities are. Nicotine is the strongest - followed by heroin, then crack. Good luck with the whole thing.

Doctors go to school for many years. Police enforce laws. What is your logic for asking a cop this question again?
