Get them directly from the airline. PLEASE. The reason for this is that these sites like Expedia are secondary. Even if you purchase a ticket from Expedia - say months in advance - you surprisingly do NOT get first priority from airlines or hotels.
So many people have stories at showing up at hotels only to find that their room has been downgraded or given away. This happens because last-minute walk-ins or call-ins can take your spot since they don't have to pay commission to expedia or tickets.com for that new customer. Very sneaky I know but businesses only care about their profit. Go to tripadvisor.com and read all the horror stories about this happening to people. It happens every day.
It's better to buy direct to get that peace of mind and security. I would NEVER use an online discount site.

orbitz.com - see what airlines fly out of the airport you will use to your final destination.
travelocity.com - same as above
Visit any and all of the airlines web sites direct. That's what I do after I visit the two web sites above. .
Have found better prices, more flight choices by going direct.

Searches all the travel websites like Travelocity,Orbitz, Expedia, etc.... and also searches all major Airline websites all with one click of the mouse.
Try it against what you have found. Also works great with hotels
