Grounding you for not going to church is reasonable since you are a minor living in her house. Grounding you for not believing in God is another thing. She cant force you to believe.

I´m an atheist so I´m totally with you. But think that you´ll dramatically lighten the mood at home if you PRETEND to be interested. If you can, go to mass with a book pretending it´s the ·&%$/& bible. In any case, soon enough you´ll be living on your own and you´ll be on one hand cherishing your intellectual and physical independance, and on the other, you´ll be happy to have maintained a good relationship with your parents. Believe me, in later ages, that is very important. In any case, try to go for the middle ground, don´t confront yet, you´re not in a position of power.
Good luck!

woah. Sadly, I have heard of idiotic things like this happening before. Yeah, she is being totally and completley unreasonable. No one has any right to try and force you to be a part of a religion that you don't believe in. That's just not right. I recomen going to church and humoring her though. Just pretend you believe in he presence, the rest of the time you can just be a nice normal religionless human being. ^^ If you need any more advice or help on this kind of thing you can e-mail me. I'd love to chat with you and talk about this some more. happiest_phantom@yahoo.com

I hope your mam comes to terms with your decision soon and let's you decide for yourself what / if any religion you want to belong to. Forcing you to go to church is not a very affective way to encourage your respect for Catholicism.
Maybe if your parents give you some time away from church, they will be pleasantly surprised if you choose to return to church one day of your own free will.

Since you have been raised catholic, Catholics believe that if you do not go to church you go to hell. I think your mom is being unreasonable, she should be letting you make your own choices and believe what you want to believe. She can't make you believe in what she believes in.

I think u are young and haven't seen the miracle of God's great work. All of us are sacelar religious as children we don't believe until we see. And some grown people need to open their eyes and see whats real. U will grow out of it, maybe one day.

She IS being unreasonable.
You should do what I did...
... say you're not Catholic after you get Confirmation.
Then say "I'm an and you can't tell me no, because I'm an adult now!"

If you are 13 or over that is illegal and you should talk to somebody at your school a councelor preferrably cus if you take this to a court you would win cus 13 and up you have the freedom of religon. My mom did this to me too for a while and that is how i fixed it.

I tend to see people who are raised Catholic not understand the concept of accepting Christ into their hearts and not experiencing His love. Maybe you could check out this site: www.notreligion.com
Hope this helps, and keep an open mind for your mom,
peace
