I'm sixteen years old and I currently suffer from all kinds of things. Worst are my almost unbearable mood swings, from ecstatic one minute to a pathetic emotional wreck the next. Little things set me off and I get stressed very easily. One thing can ruin my day. I've always been very moody, but it hasn't been until recently that I've noticed how much I worry, cry, and how much emotion I experience. At times the depression is a lot to deal with and all I can do is sit here and wish I wasn't alive (though I wouldn't say I'm suicidal).

I'm afraid to talk to my parents about it, as the relationship we have seems to be very superficial and fake. I'd like anyones' opinion on a specific disorder I may be dealing with, and this can go beyond the scope of Yahoo! Answers. I wouldn't mind chatting about it, emailing back and forth, whatever.

I believe it's a mood disorder, but I'm not sure what. I'm pretty sure I'm not bipolar, as I don't meet a lot of the symptons.

Thank you for your input.

Thank you for the answers so far.

I've speculated about many different types of disorders, and sometimes I'll come close to matching them. I found another question here about Borderline Personality Disorder, which lead me to look it up on Wikipedia, and I match the symptons at least 90 to 95%.

I would like to talk to a professional, but it's hard to tell your mom, who loves you and wants the best for you, "Hey mom, I'm screwed up, I need some help,". I don't want to make her feel like a failure, you know?

I'm homeschooled so school help is out of the question, along with school being a cause of my anxiety.

You need to talk to a professional or your parents about this. You may have a hormone disorder of some sort that can be corrected with hormone therapy, or you may just be a typical teenager. Teenage brains are wired differently which can lead to mood swings. High school is incredibly stressful and it is normal to feel anxious. Seriously, talk to a professional since there are many different things that may be causing your feelings.

I'm no doctor, Honey, but I've seen a few things. You could indeed be bi-polar. Or you could have depression or some kind of anxiety disorder- or even a combination.

Since you don't feel you can talk to your parents, find someone you CAN talk to. The cousellors at school are supposed to know a bit, or check the yellow pages. Even a trusted adult might be able to help you work through this. I was very moody at your age too, and still am at times. It's not much fun.

Find help- And good luck!

For anyone with a chronic disease such as diabetes, not feeling well can bring on a feeling of imminent mortality. She likely is fine, but she is starting to prepare herself for passing away at an earlier age. Most of us go through this from time to time, especially when we get the word from our docs that our bodies are deteriorating. For instance, I went into a funk like that a couple of months ago when my eye doctor said he could see signs of diabetes in my eyes. Sometimes it's accompanied by deep depression, sometimes it's just a matter-of-fact thing that we deal with. I've had those "if something happens to me" conversations with my hubby, too. Go with her to the doc appt if you can, and ask him questions about anything he tells you so that you can have a realistic picture of what, if anything, she's dealing with. Sometimes she will be a "drama queen", and you'll need to bring her back to reality.
