I sence something is wrong my moms cat is licking it self when ever we pet it. she licks hard and will not stop if you move her out of the licking area's / fur her eyes get big and itlooks as if it hurts her if i dont let her lick. at first this happend when you pet her butt but now it's where ever you touch the cat!
She is about 16 years old possible older overweight cat. I don't feel that she will be with us much longer due to her age! is her licking her self a sign of this? if not what is it?

My dad's cat had this same problem.
The vet said it was obsessive-compulsive.
It doesn't hurt the cat so long as you don't pet it too often and make it lick because it could get exhausted.
My dad's cat was older and chubby, too.
I wouldn't worry too much, just love the kitty for who it is- quirks and all.

Cats like to be well groomed --- done by themselves....so, everytime you touch her in the area she won't stop licking in, she licks again to make it "clean" again. When you touch/pet/rub the area on her where she doesn't stop licking it's because she thinks you are making it dirty with your scent. I would suggest not doing that anymore as it could be stressing her out and at that age...that's not good.

My lady kitty likes to lick greater advantageous than the boys, yet they're going to "flavor" each and every now and then for some licks, too. one in all our boy cats will play "chew", yet does not injury, he basically pretends, hangs on for a minute, then we could circulate. that's sort of a particular interest. unquestionably, our dogs (additionally lady) is the worst approximately licking--she would be able to lick arms, legs, ft...something she would be able to. i do no longer strategies the kitty, yet canines are sloppy.

My cat's only a year old and he sometimes licks the areas where I pet him. It's like he's telling me "Eww you touched me!"

Seems like she is not longer liking your smell. Yes this can be a sign of old age showing her sense of smell is going.

I don't think there's anything wrong with her. There's no need to stop her from licking herself unless it bothers you.
