I am asking because I see so many people believing in that stuff. I wonder what attracts them.

I think, psychologically, "spells" and "curses" can affect people. If you tell someone they look sick, often times, they'll start to feel sick. It's just a psychosomatic issue--nothing is really wrong with them, but their belief makes it present itself in physical ways.

So, if you are trying to curse someone, all you have to do is convince them that you really, truly have that ability. Maybe throw in a little magic of your own (read: set them up) to convince them they've been cursed and see what happens.

I'm not a believer of magic, spells, or voodoo of any sorts, but I do believe that our bodies will react with the correct stimuli.

Only if the person being cursed believes in it strongly enough. Curses, hexes, and the like don't operate so much on real power as they do on the fears of the person. The person throwing the curse makes their curse work by playing on the fears of the person they are cursing...if they can get that person, somehow, even subconsciously, to actually believe that they are being cursed then that person who is "hexed" will inadvertently manifest that hex themselves.

Magic needs several things to work. It needs strong intent, strong belief on the parts of all parties involved (which is why love spells NEVER work), and it needs time. Curses need not only the belief of the person casting them, but that of the person it's being cast on. So a curse cast on a person who doesn't believe in them and thinks it's BS is not likely going to work.

You'll find though that those people who do engage in hex-casting do so to vent frustrations more than anything. It's psychological, sort of a metaphysical equivelant of punching a pillow.

Now I'm not saying that curses NEVER work or really affect people since I've seen hexes cast on criminals in the past that have worked, but it's rare.

I believe in them but if you have a strong will you can avoid the negative things, like curses. Those are terrible and anyone practicing them are dead wrong in what the Craft is meant to do. Spells though can only affect a person if they accept it, really. They are really just "prayers in action" if you want to put it simply. But most spells aren't supposed to be done without the affected person's permission. It's against free will. So, they'd know and their mind would add to it.

Greetings,
The only curses that would have any affect upon humanity are the ones that are pronounced by God. Any other curses that might be thrown our way have no power or authority over us as they tend not to have any kind of authority figure behind them that is greater than God. Same with spells, they can not bring about anything harmful to us as there is no substance to them.

if YOU believe you are cursed or that a spell has been cast on you, yes it can affect a person. It is just like people who believe in heaven or hell, if you believe it then it is so. A person can believe so much that he is a werewolf that he begins to grow hair on his body. The human mind is awesome and has all kinds of untapped potential..... we can make things happen if we believe, good or bad.

If prayer works then spells and curses work. It is focused thought energy.
